The Providence Restaurant in Los Angeles was transformed from the Water Grill, an old seafood restaurant.  Now, though the original Patina layout remains, with a series of separate dining areas that included a lounge with a subdued atmosphere, an adjacent nook, a private chef’s table, a main room, and a covered patio annex, all elegant and remaining in tact, the Providence Restaurant in Los Angeles is a Michael Cimarusti’s French-influenced seafood spectaculars.

Beige-brown hues and clusters of porcelain and ceramic seashells make up the scant decoration in the sophisticated Providence Restaurant in Los Angeles, and servers seem to glide about confidently with a certain charm that enhances rather than distracts from the background.

Starters come in hot and cold/raw choices, including such offerings as Kanpachi and sweet Japanese ayu.  Entrees are built around seafood but offer up succulent side dishes; try the snapper with roma tomato compote and artichoke puree, or scallops with cauliflower-bacon ravioli.  For dessert, you must taste the chocolate chibouste topped with tarragon ice cream and sea salt (to offset the sweetness).

To be part of the action, sit in the main room, or for a quieter meal, opt for patio room seating.  Don’t find yourself stuck in the small alcove set remotely behind the bar.  Try one of the many by-the-glass wine options, or order up a bottle.

Valet parking is offered at the Providence Restaurant in Los Angeles, but you can usually find a spot somewhere on the streets to park.  Reservations are recommended but not necessary, if you don’t mind a bit of a wait.  Restaurant hours are Monday through Saturday from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.  The fare is a bit pricey, but the Providence Restaurant in Los Angeles makes up for it with special occasion dining options, prix fixe menus, and a great location for people watching.  Major credit cards accepted include American Express, MasterCard, and Visa.  Take advantage of the opportunity to visit one of Melrose’s greatest restaurant offerings – you certainly won’t regret your stop.
